SunCor New Mexico Donates Land for New Fire Station

A 3.75 acre parcel of land in Rancho Viejo will be the location for a new Santa Fe County fire station as soon as late 2009. The land, located on Rancho Viejo Blvd. near N.M. 14 and the Turquoise Trail Business Park, was donated to the County by master planned community developer SunCor New Mexico, Inc.

When completed, the new fire station will be a 9,000 square foot facility with 24-hour living quarters for both paid and volunteer firefighting staff. It will be the headquarters facility for firefighting in western Santa Fe County, serving nearly 15,000 residents in the Rancho Viejo and La Cienega areas.

“Donating the land to the County for this purpose is the right thing to do,” said Isaac Pino, president of SunCor New Mexico, Inc. “This new facility will serve the community of Rancho Viejo and the surrounding area for generations.”

A voter-approved $5 million general-obligation bond, passed in 2008 will provide the dollars to design and construct the facility. Construction could begin as soon as this summer.
